without having to make a zone1 pass ..... i usually have zone2,3 and mostly cover zone 1 through bus unless absolutly necessary
just wanna save some money ... or do i need to have zone1 if i dont wanna face the embarrasment of being late

I think the quickest route is get the overland train from Clapham High Street to Victoria then jump on the tube to Hammersmith.

I live at Clapham Common and take the 35 'bus to Clapham Junction then a Silverlink train from platform 2 to Kensington Olympia. Then its a 10 minute walk through to Hammersmith (or take a number 9 or 10 bus if it's raining!) That's all in Zone 2.

According to TFL's journey planner, the quickest route would be by tube, unfortunately via zone 1. It should take about 35-40 minutes (if all goes well)
Take the Northern line to Stockwell, the Victoria line to Victoria, and the District line to Hammersmith.

You can get a couple of buses but I reckon it would be quite unreliable as you'd be relying on one turning up on time.
If you really don't want to tube into zone 1, buy a scooter or a bike, it really isn't that far as the crow flies.

Cycle it, it's free, it's healthy and it's much quicker than any other form of transport in London (apart from maybe a scooter / motorbike) plus it's a hell of a lot cooler than the tube in a sweltering heatwave!
