First, calm down. Secondly, call your mom and try to get her on the phone with your sister...if you can't reach her. Tell her this is a normal part of growing up and becoming a woman. Yes, it is a little scary, but you need to be the strong older brother and help her through this. Explain that all girls her age start at some point and that she is absolutely not dying. Just tell her to go into the bathroom and read the package of the pads - it should say how to place them - Good luck - hope this helps!

my mom thought she was dying too because back then they just didn't tell you about stuff like that, but most of the time, people know about their period. I know that it would be hard for you to explain to her, but even if you don't want to tell her everything, just make sure she realizes that it's normal, that she's not dying, that it happens to all women once they reach a certain age. I would try contacting a family member as well, so maybe they could talk to her on the phone, especially your mom. That's who she's really going to want to talk to. As for the pads, there should be instructions on the package. Make sure she understands how to use them. It can seem pretty confusing at first, but she'll soon understand. The best thing you can do though is just keep reassuring her that it's perfectly normal.

Tell her all women and girls her age have this each month. It is healthy and normal. It is your body's way of telling you it is able and ready to conceive and carry a baby. Each month the female body gets a place ready to carry a baby. If no egg is fertilized, then the tissue that has built up for the baby to grow in, starts to break down and is passed out of the body. If she is young tell her it is a good thing, and it will be a good thing for many years...it means she is not pregnant!
Get her one of your sister's pads and tell her to place it in her underwear to catch the flow. Tell her that she will need to change it as it gets full. If she gets any on her underwear have her rinse them out with cold water.
Your mom can explain all the details to her when she gets home, but I'm willing to bet she knows about it if she has older sisters.
Relax!

I think this is what i would do. First of all tell her that she is not dying and that its a normal thing that happens to young girls. U can even help her by getting an underwear and show her how to put the pad on. and then she can go to the bathroom and put it on herself. Not sure if youll know how to also but on the package there is a pciture on how to put the pad on also.
If that doesnt help her you should ask your friend thats a girl to help her out if you cant reach any of your family or your relatives.
Good luck
P.S. Shouldnt she know byt now if shes in 5th grade? we were all taought around 4th grade i think

Hun,calm down first, lol.Contact a family member or a family friend, remember that it needs to be a female because she may need help. You can tell this family member or family friend the situation, but make sure you stay calm. The minute you freak out, your sister is going to feel something is wrong with her.Do not do this, because it could confuse her and embarass her as well as you.Just calm down, and make a quick call.Dont explain nothing, allow the trusted female to do what is needed, because you doing it will be very uncomfortable for you and her.Good luck, and stay calm!

tell her it is a natural thing that every woman gets in her life. it will usually occur for 5-7 days, once a month.
if she uses a pad to have her line it in her underwear and if she isnt old enough yet i wouldnt suggest tampons.
if you dont feel comfortable tellign her this then tell her to read the replies on her herself. that way she will get a better understanding or to contact a friend, family member.
if having questions she can email some one on here if they are willign to help.
mine should be on my profile if you need help

Talk to her and show her the website I am posting below. It explains very well the whole process of menstruation with diagrams. Assure her she is not dying and that all girls go through and explain why your sister has pads.

If you are old enough to babysit your sister who is having a period then you must have gone through the experience before.Should not be so hard to explain.
BUT, shame on your mommy if she did not explain it to her before

Give her a pad and tell her it's nothing to worry about, but she needs to talk to her parents.
