Breech of contract? IF you have it in writing.

Depends on the promise.
If it's the promise of a paycheck; then it could be considered theft of services.
Otherwise, your only recourse is to sue for breach of contract -- and pretty much the only way you'll win is if the promise is in writing.

It is called creating false expectations. You will need something in writing if you think of taking legal actions against your employer, otherwise it will be your word against his. Luckily these days the employee has more power than they had 10 or 20 years ago.

Breach of Contract, but I assume it was in writing? There is some legitimacy in Oral Contracts as well. Harder to prove tho.
