Ohh! sorry I thought you were talking about chemical indicators for titration!

Are you talking about the symbols or legends used in chemical notation that put clear what kind of product or matter state change ocurrs in a reaction?

It is important to put the more information that is available for a chemical process in order to reproduce it again, to control it, to get maybe more product - yield from it, etc.

For example, in some reactions, there are change of states (for example if a precipitate is formed or if a gas is released you maybe want to recover it or use it as an indicator that reaction is over or for analytical methods purposes)

If you are aware that a reaction is exotermic (using the negative sign delta and the value of released heat) you maybe need to control the temperature at which the reaction ocurrs.

And so on...

Hope this was useful to you.

Good luck!

Fizzy foam is produced. What you're seeing is an acid (vinegar) reacting with a base (baking soda). This reaction releases bubbles of carbon dioxide gas. that's what makes the froth.
