First, download the newest version (7.0.1.8) of iTunes. They've changed the process slightly, and made it even easier. To do this, go into iTunes, click Help, then click Check for Updates. Follow the directions. It should only take a few minutes.
Copying music from a CD to you iPod is a two step process. You copy it from the CD to your computer, and then from your computer to the iPod. First, go into iTunes. Put a CD in your computer. After a few seconds, iTunes will pop up a message that asks if you want to import the CD into your iTunes Library. Click Yes. iTunes will copy the CD onto your computer, and will list the songs in your iTunes Library.
Synchronizing the iTunes Library (and any Playlists you've created) can be as easy as plugging your iPod into the computer. If your iTunes settings allow for automatic synchronization (which the default setting), you don't have to do anything else. Just wait for the synchronization to end (you can see the progress if you click on the iPod on the left side of iTunes). When it's done, just eject the iPod and you're done.
However, if you belong to Audible.com (a book club) it will tell you to change your settings, so you have to manually synchronize songs onto your iPod. You might also have to do this with the Shuffle - I'm not sure. If that's the case, you plug in your iPod and wait for it to appear on the right side of iTunes. When you see it, just click on Library, then click the song(s) or playlist(s) you want to put on your iPod and drag them to the iPod icon on the left side. You can do groups or individual items.
