Ask your doctor, prescription drugs are more potent then the other ones. Eat well, exercise and try to stress less but these need to be done during the whole month!
I'm still looking for the best one! I added this question to my watch-list http://ca.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=As6RAfthgWjSZXDd6tvCLwzAFQx.?qid=20060615172716AAK6j3r

Birthcontrol pills are a medicinal cure but if your looking for something more natural or less invasive try the new heat packs and taking a small dose of ibuprofen to help elliviate the cramps and discomfort. If you do not take vitamins or supplements try taking calcium with magnessium and pottasium--that helped me when the cramps got really bad. I also kept a journal of each day so I could figure out when Aunt Flow was coming and prepare myself by uping the ibuprofen and start the heat packs to help. The birthcontrol pills can help but with all pills there are risks and I just didn't want to take those. You might ask your doctor or nurse for an estrogen cream to rub on your tummy when the cramps hit, that might help as well.
Good Luck, sorry you feel so crummy with your cramps. Those are never fun.

I have heard that eating potassium helps relieve cramps, but I think you have to eat it sonsistenty before you start having the cramps. Try putting a heating pad or a heating sticker on it, that always helps me.

Advil works really well, better than Tylenol. Also try taking a hot bath. The heat helps to ease the pain.

It may sound weird but my doctor actually said to have sex for bad menstral cramps and for some weird reason it actually works for me and my friends also swear by it. Also never hurts to load up on ibuprophen before.

warm milk with honey helps, but only a little. That pain... I wish we could give it to men from time to time
What helps for me too is a warm waterbag (we name it in french 'a bouillotte') on my belly or lower back when I'm in bed. Keeping belly and back warm is always best. So no short tees with low rise trousers that period. and a painkiller from time to time
good luck...

Calcium everyday. Take one multivitamin and one calcium tab everyday forever. Within your next two periods you'll be PMS free. I promise...or you can come and shoot me in a menstrual rage.
