The top is the dominant and the bottom is the submissive. The top does the pitching while the bottom does the catching. The top does all the work, while the bottom just lies there and takes it.

It depends, in intercourse the top is the penetrator the bottom the reciever. In BDSM the top is the person who does the "mean" stuff (aka the dom), the bottom is the person who tells them when to start or stop (aka the sub). In oral the top is the mouth, the bottom is the reciever, but you don't hear it used for oral much at all since most people are oral versatile, regardless of whether or not they like BDSM, strap-ons or backdoor.
