lol i love the different answers on here...and they're all correct!
in the states a sloppy joe is minced beef, served with a tomato & onion based sauce or shaped like a patty and served with relish.
in the uk it's an old expression for a tee-shirt. (i had never heard of the word t-shirt till i was about 6..mum always called it a sloppy joe!)
i wonder if there are any other expressions that are totally different here and the states?

I'm assuming you mean "sloppy joe", here's a recipe
Sloppy Joes with ground beef and onions.
INGREDIENTS:
3 pounds ground beef chuck
1 cup chopped onions, about 2 medium onions
2 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 cups ketchup
2 1/2 cups water
8 split and toasted sandwich rolls
PREPARATION:
Cook ground beef with onion, salt and pepper until beef is no longer red, stirring to break up. Sprinkle flour over beef; stir to blend thoroughly. Add Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and water. Simmer, stirring often, for 15 to 25 minutes, or until thickened.
Serve between toasted rolls.

I think you mean "sloppy joe." It's a sandwich filling usually made from ground beef, ketchup (catsup), onions, and other spices, served on hamburger buns. See below for recipes.
