Rent a Rug Doctor steam cleaner from your local supermarket or tool hire stall - not expensive and the carpet shampoo, stain remover and deodoriser are supplied with the machine. Ths is a cheap effective method, but you have to do the work. If you want it done for you by a professional cleaner, search the classifieds of your local paper for a reasonably priced operator

You get what you pay for. Steam Cleaning is the carpet manufacturer's preferred method. With shampooing you get residue. Residue will attract dirt. The carpet may look good initially with a shampoo method, but it will re-soil rapidly. Call a professional. It is well worth your money.

Rent rug doctor if you want to do it yourself. You can hire it done. Just watch for ads that offer discounts when you do several rooms or check the phone book and get estimates for the entire job. Some offer great deals if your doing the whole house.

Hire a 'rug doctor' machine from homebase for 24 hours. I think it's about £20.
