What ever you do, do an experiment. Don't just do show and tell, like someone suggested with composting.

Simple experiments are:

- testing many different paper airplane designs to see which ones will fly farthest, straightest, etc.
- testing how long various (alkalyne, ni-cad, li-ion, etc) types of batteries take to discharge under various loads.

Try to make some predictions based on what you think, or have heard about the various products. It's okay if your predictions are wrong. Try to draw conclusions from your experiment.

Make a spectroscope from and old CD or DVD. The CD/DVD will break light up into its spectrum. You could actually determine the chemical composition of the gas in a street light or some other glowing gas source of light. Check the web for instructions on how to make one. Search on the words spectroscope and CD/DVD. A very simple device but demonstrates some deep scientific principles.

P.S. Actually I totally agree with this guy Micheal E. Conducting a real experiment is much better than just making something ... but I still like the little CD spectroscope ... it's just so clever.

Try doing something with tornados, cyclones, hurricans and things like that. It has been a while since I have done anything like that, but when I did it (years ago) it was great. I got a really good grade on it and it was so much fun to do. I got to work with food coloring, lots of water, wind and make a mess without worring about getting in trouble.

You can test the PH level of different pop's or juices. My son did that one year. Go to your local pet store and look in the fish tank supplies for PH dip sticks. Then you test them and make a graph of what level each different drink is at. Pretty simple to do and very inexpensive. Have fun!

Buy some meal worms and show how they produce compost by what they eat. You have to be careful what you feed them. I forgot what they can eat but it is very cool! You can show how instead of throwing everything away you can feed it to the worms and they can turn it in to fertilizer to help the earth.
