I've downloaded Internet Explorer 7, which can now be seen in "Add/Remove Program" list, but for some rather bizarre reason, it's NOT appearing on my Start Menu & Desktop. This happened earlier, so I uninstalled it, thinking reinstalling will ASK me if I want it on my "start menu" along with on "desktop" but I didn't come across an option that actually ASKS me so.

I then located the "iexplorer.exe" icon in Internet Explorer folder within the Program Files & then copied it pasted it on "Desktop" along with in the "start menu" but when I click on it, it DOES NOT open the Internet Explorer browser, which is yet a mystery, I'm afraid. However, when I click on "iexplorer.exe" icon in the Internet Explorer folder in the Program Files, it DOES open the Internet Explorer browser.

Surely, the last thing I'd want to do is to open an Internet Explorer this rather lengthy way (going to Program files & then Internet Explorer & then double-click on "iexplorer.exe" icon).

Can anyone help?

You don't need all kinds of extra programs to get this job done. And you don't need to make COPIES of links, either. Here's how to achieve your desired results PROPERLY!

#1. Right click on an empty space on your Desktop. Click Properties (yes, I forgot that ...blushing! THX comptech) Pick the "Desktop" tab at the top of the box that comes up. At the bottom of that box click "Customize Desktop". Make sure that there is a checkmark in the box next to "Internet Explorer" at the top of the box that comes up next. Click on OK to close both boxes.

You now should have a big round E on your desktop. You can drag and drop it anywhere you want.

#2. Go to your Start Menu. Do the same thing there...Right Click in an UNused area and then "Properties" to bring up the menu box. Click "Customize" in the box when it comes up. Put a check mark next to "Internet" making sure it says "Internet Explorer" in the dropdown list next to it. Click OK and then Apply.

You now should have that big round E in your Startup List.

Personally... I'd be kissing my computer if it swallowed Internet Explorer on me... not that I'd notice as I don't use it.

Most of the reviews of IE7 have said that it's a rebranded Firefox. IE7's also still in beta aka it's not finished.

The comparable Firefox (1.5) is out of beta and has been for a while. Since Firefox is only a 5Mb download, give it a try!

Firefox automatically blocks pop-ups and sites from installing programs on your computer, it doesn't run ActiveX - which is a serious security hazard.

Firefox is also extremely customizable. Two small and free add-ons block all flash ads, banner ads and other image ads. They're gone! Poof! (Adblock Plus and Adblock Filterset.G Updater)

There's an add-on already made for nearly every need (or whim). Want to control your music player without switching to it? Foxytunes is for you. And yes, there is a search engine on the add-ons site.

Firefox puts the control back into Your hands. You can change how Firefox looks, acts, you can even change how Firefox shows specific sites. Don't like a layout? Change it! (With Greasemonkey and Stylish)

Firefox has the potential to be the most powerful web browser you've ever used!

Not sure how you copied it to the desktop so I will take you through this.

Find the file as you have said above. Right Click on the file a choose send to - within this submenu there will be option:

desktop (create shortcut).

Click on this and you should now have a shortcut on your desktop. If that doesn't work then I am confused as it should.

just click on any folder on your desktop or anywhere else and type a website name. Internet Explorer Is made by mircrosoft and automatically gets built in to every folder

Have you tried right clicking iexplorer.exe and making a shortcut and then moving that (the shortcut you created) to your desktop?

If IE7 is your default browser then any link will open it.
Then go to your desired homepage and drag the address onto your desktop.

Try 'dragging' the icon to you Desktop, as opposed to 'cutting & pasting' it.

Hope this helps ...
