I want to link my older comp. with my new one so I can use the old one for file stroage. The new one is XP and he older one is Windows98.

yes, all you have to do is connect both to a common network and "share" the folders that you want to see from each computer by the other, then map the connection as a network place

Yes. Usually when you establish a home network, you can make a disk that can be ran on other computers to configure their settings; in this case you would have to do each seperately.

yes you can network these two together but why ?, simply take the harddrive out of the old one and put it in the new one

If you do want to network them, buy two network cards install them, set tcp/ip as your protocl and static ip address in the same range with identical mask and off you go

If the software runnning your network is compatible with both. I ran Linix and Windows on the same network.
