hey i've heard that u can get paid by just putting banners and links of other websites on your site.Is this possible, how can i contact them to get paid too, can u do it with a free website like geocities,and how does it work.Thanks in advance

you don't need to contact anyone. you are looking for google adsense
Basically you get paid for the click throughs ie if a person visits your site and hits an ad then this will be recorded and you will be paid. This will explain it more fully.

Banner ads are annoying. Trust me on this - if you want people to come back to your site, don't use banner ads.
Google ads, however, are actually helpful at times.
