Is birth control not something your interested in? When you have your period, this is when the lining of the uterus is getting rid of the egg that was not fertilized. After your period, about 14 days, you will ovulate. Your ovulation is about 2 days and often you will notice this thick, sticky discharge. About 8 days after that your body starts to release the unfertilized egg which in turn causes pain. Then your period will start again. This is not a safe method for any one not in a serious relationship and does not want children. There are birth control pills, patches, inter uterine devices and most readily available is the condom. Be safe!

The best way to avoid pregnancy is to abstain.

The next best options are to have surgery, but you are a little young.

After surgery, hormonal methods are the next most reliable - the oral contraceptive pill or the implantable hormones.

Then barrier methods are next most reliable, particularly condom with spermicide. The barrier methods also have the added bonus of protection from STD's.

The "natural methods" of withdrawal and the rhythm methods are not considered to be reliable forms of contraception. Many women have become pregnant while using them.

The (unreliable) rhythm method suggests that if you have sex just before your period, you are unlikely to become pregnant. Pregnancy risk is also lessened if you have sex during or right after your period, but later on in your cycle (around the time of ovulation) you are much more likely to become pregnant. In fact, so much so that couples TRYING to conceive use the rhythm method to maximise their chances of conceiving.

Use condoms and spermaside and maybe you won't have to stress so much. The rhythem method is NOT proven. Please protect yourself!
