my son was born at 1lb 14oz and went down to just under a pound and he was born at 25 week. He survived, I know that it is very stress full on you but he will make it through and he might be in the nicu for a minute so don't expect him to come right home i know my son was in there for 7 months and it was a living night mare. but he is out and now if you look at him you would never know that he was a preemie. They gain weight really fast so don't worry. Here is a tip that helped my son give the baby good deep massage that help my son out it might do the same for your. Just keep your head up been there and it is well worth the wait.

I just spoke with a nurse yesterday who told me that she took care of a preemie baby that weighed less than 1 pound at birth. The baby had been born at Fairfax Inova Hospital in Northern Virginia and had to stay in the NICU until a little past the 1st birthday. The baby is 3 years old now and doing well.

Also, go to www.preemiemagazine.com and subscribe to it. They offer a free subscription - I think only for the first year. I just subscribed and am getting a lot of good information from there.

There was a story about 6 months ago on every news station. It was about a preemie that weighed less than a can of soda and survived. I have a preemie that just turned 2 years old not long ago. She was very tiny at birth but with a lot of live and a lot of patience they can survive.

Never heard of one being under 1lb and surviving. My son was 4lbs 6oz and he's 6 months old now. My brother in law's boss had a baby a couple of months ago that weighed just barely over 2lbs, but I've never heard of one uner 1lb 6oz.

Absolutely! I have a neighbor who had twin girls and each weighed slightly under a pound! They are now 6 years old and as healthy as can be!

It sounds like you son is doing great! Enjoy your time with him as they grow up way too fast!

Wow that is wonderful! How far along were you? I lost a baby at 20 weeks that was 12 oz and 10 inches long. That sounds like a miracle to me.

So how much does he way now? Anyway, I am not in the medical field, but I know a couple of babies (crack babies) that were born really tiny. But the thing is, they turned out to be really healthy after about 5 months. One is really fat; you never would've know he was premature. Good luck to you and your baby.
