If one wants to go beyond either a predecided opinion, or rely on good ol' common sense, it is a good idea to think things through. On this forum I have found that I have become a grasshopper, I suggest that little effort goes into really thinking about anything for long on this site, especially with the emphasis on points encouraging one to go for quick hits. Looking at the points people accumulate I suggest lots are on a quick fix. at least I have been since starting, and suddenly realised that I was in the same frame of mind as when I was looking for the next quick "fix", questions of diverse nature being answered, or asked, and then abandonned to get onto the next one. I suggest Yahoo answers far from encouraging constructive original thought does the opposite. Of course this is obvious but it has taken me 2 days to suss it. Information overload. Hardly any question lasts for more than 10 minutes, which is inevitable in this format, Who does this benefit?

You stop thinking on your own, the point system merely encourages it--the questions last for a minimum of four hours and most of them are trivial brain candy. The world will not blow up if you rush an answer to a question, and if you're feeling too rushed to tell someone what your opinion of their poem or Cris Cloumbus is, skip that question and go to the one about who your favorite movie star or author is. Unless of course you want to turn off the computer and go out and get a REAL life (the HORROR!)

If this is the only site one uses for answers to life's questions then a sad and superficial existence awaits. However, if one can bounce ideas off the people here and perhaps get some useful answers then what's the harm in that. I have read some great answers from across the board covering topics such as relationship dificulties to car repair, from theological issues to brain teasing math problems. And that's just in one boring day at the office.

I completely agree with you. If someone needs a serious answer they really shouldn't be coming here because that is not enough close to what they will get . Yes there are some people that do give serious thought to their answers but for the most part it seems like everyone is just gunning for the points. What good are the points anyways?

I don't think so as I have quite a few questions on my watch list. True I do flit from 1 to the other but there a few discussions that I am quite interested in.

I think it does allow people to not think things through, or maybe take a shortcut. But sometimes it's nice to have an outsider's opinion, even if you don't go with that solution. I see what you're saying, though. People just have to realize that they can't take everything to heart.

Come on, stop taking yourself so seriously. You have to learn to search for the gold in all the silt.
