They fizzed out about 30 years ago. Some went out because of drugs; Others because they found out that communal living is not easy to work out, after all. There were different kinds of hippies so there are probably different answers for different kinds, but I think all were affected by the sudden upshoot in the cost of living.

Hippies are good ok. They just wanted the war to stop. Listen to Unknown soldier by The Doors. After the war they were through cause of all of the deaths. Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison. They all died so maybe the spirit of them just sank away.

The ones that didn't OD on illegal drugs became politicians and stock traders. Or maybe it was the ones who OD'd on illegal drugs who became politicians and stock traders.
