You can't, because to some people (fans) they are role models.
There are also a lot of celebrities who claim that they are not trying to be role models. More than half the time they are made to be role models whether they choose to be or not. It is unfair to blame the celebrities for that. After all it is the fans who make them who they are. There is nothing wrong with having a celebrity as a role model. It is no diffrent than having a fictional character in a book as a Role model or your next door neighbor as a role model except for the fact that they are well known. There are some bad role models as celebrities just like there are bad role model that are non celebrities. The bottom line is too many people want to be like these celebrities and there is a high demand for celebrities products; that unless we choose to stop trying to be like them then you won't be able to stop it.

Because they are role models, whether they like it or not--that what celebrity status is, we celebrate them with an elevated esteem, for whatever reasons. I don't know what "stupid question" Tyra gave, as if the forum wasn't filled to the ceiling with stupid questions, but there are people who look to such for inspiration or a yardstick of achievement or a shared aspiration. Can't help it, pal, it is part of life and we all have our heroes--some are obviously better deserving than others though.

Celebrities are sometimes good role models.
Unfortunately, many of the stars or celebrities of today are poor examples, but since they are in the public eye, kids look up to them.
There is nothing that can be done except to explain to the kids that these celebrities get paid for what they do and say.

Well, considering the amount of stars that don't like to be role models, I don't think every celebrity feels this way. I think they have to discover, like us all, that they are not gods gift to man. Leonardo DiCaprio came to this realization a year or so ago. He said that he realized that he was only an actor, and if he wanted to really impact this world that he would have to do mroe than just act. We have to show these celebrities that they are only actors and musicians. To effect real change and be remembered they will have to do more than sing nice and look pretty.

They are made role models whether they want to be or not. Why don't you ask your youth why they're looking up to these people. IT's not Tyra's fault and I think she's doing an excellent job. What have you done for the youth of America, lately?

Well, it is the news media for the most part that holds them up as role models, most celebrities I have heard interviewed are appalled that people consider them that way, and just want to do their jobs and be left alone.

I think the celebrities already know that. It's our youth who are making them role models.

Amen! you said a mouthful!... these people are simply doing a job - period!.. that does not make them any more special / more informed/ idols to be emulated than anyone else....they constantly pat each other on the back with awards , and think their political views are important... personally I think more of the doctors, nurses, cops, firemen, garbage men , grocery clerks, etc,( real people) that work hard every day to take care of their families.. and are real role models!

I think most of them already don't want the responsibility of being a role model.
