Where do celebrities come up with these names? I was watching Vh1 last night and it was a show on celebrity babies. Grier Hammond? And that's a girl! There's more that shocked me but that's all I can remember off the top of my head. Where do celebrities come up with these names? Some are actually cool to me so I'd like to know where they get these things. Celebrity's Guid to Baby Naming? BabyNamesForTheRichAndFamous.com? Where do they get 'em? :-)

I think its because they are celebrities everyone will ooh and ahh and how original the name....meanwhile if you or I were to name our baby that, people would think we were ridiculous!

I can think of a lot worse names than the ones celebrities use. Apple, Grier, Suri, Shiloh are wonderful compared to ones like Secret Desire which, I swear, is a name of a baby girl I know of. Why you would even do that to a child I don't know.

I don't know. I suppose they just grab a baby name book and pick one out and then twist it around or something. Maybe they have assistants who make a list of crazy names for them (I'm kidding but actually that wouldn't suprise me). By the way, Grier Hammond is totally growing on me..

I actually like Grier. Hammond not so much. There are some celeb names that are out there like Pilot Inspektor and Moon Unit and the like, but some of them I like. I actually think Apple isn't all the far out. It's cute, and not at all easy to mistake for something else.

I hear ya loud and clear! I watched a very similar show that they had on VH1 but it was all the craziest baby names. Things like : Puma, Apple, CoCo, Audio Science!? Who knows what these people are thinking!?
Oh, and that wasn't a misspelling, the girl from "A Knights Tale" actually names her kid Audio Science!

You think that's bad, there's a rock-n-roll "star" named Frank Zappa (who died MOCKING GOD AND THE BIBLE and went to Hell several years back! Good riddance to the arrogant fool!). He named his daughter "Moon Unit" and his son "Dweezle". All the drugs he did with the "Mothers of Invention" really FRIED his brain! Talk about STUPID! Then there's Grace Slick (Sick!) from the band Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship who claimed Jerry Garcia, the front man for the Grateful Dead (another unbelieving FOOL who died and went to Hell!) as her "spiritual advisor". (Yeah! A dead beat heroin addict is gonna help ANYONE! Right!) She and Chris Chaquico (the lead guitarist) named their son "god" with a small "g", stating in mocking fashion, "We've got to be humble about this!" I've heard of people naming their kids stuff like "Jack Frost", "Candy Cane" and "Ima Belcher", to name just a few. One guy I read about over a decade ago actually got his name LEGALLY changed to "Bass Fishing In America". (Must be fun when it comes time to fill out any kind of paperwork!) Some of the WEIRDEST names I've ever heard are in the "Afro American" realm. Names like "Shaniqua", "Umutu", Deeshauna", "Quannell X", and Laquisha"; like you said, WHERE DO THEY COME UP WITH THESE NAMES? And then there's the Hispanics who have the NERVE to name their sons "Jesus" (pronounced "Hey-soose"), spanish for JESUS, ie, the SON OF GOD! No one should have that name! It is sacred and only ONE person is worthy of it: the one who DIED FOR OUR SINS! What I find quite ironic is that NO ONE names their kids after the really EVIL characters in the Bible! When's the last time you heard of someone named "Jezebel" or "Judas"? How about "Satan"? Lastly, I will NEVER understand why ANYONE can't just accept what they were named instead of going by their MIDDLE name! Your FIRST name is your FIRST name! Yet these people say, "I HATE that name!" Hey, it's what makes you unique! Wear it without shame! Honour your parents enough to USE THE NAME THEY GAVE YOU!

Grier is not that bad...not for me though. It sure beats the hell out of Kel'al (which was Supermans dad, for petes sake!) I guess with anything celebrity you have to "out do" the competition. Who is thinner, who is prettier, who is the highest paid, who has the most unusual childs name. It is real cut-throat...I guess.
I'm sorry, but kids are mean...and when they get ahold of poor Apple...oh the poor kid!

My guess is that they just dream them up. But, they seem to want to use names for the shock value sometimes. (Apple, Moon Doggie, etc.) They want the attention and to stand out as being different from the rest of the human race. Their kids probably won't thank them later in life. However, I have heard some pretty ones too. Just think before you saddle a kid with a name. Is it likely to cause problems for him/her later in life.

The don't have to consider that their kids will be teased in school because the can afford to hire a private tutor so their kids don't have to walk among the rest of us. Because if they let their kids go to public school they would get teased and bullied because some of the names they come up with are so far fetched.
