After working for Foot Locker for over 3 years, I have several answers to your question. First, depends on the shoe. Shock absorbancy in shoes with gel or air built into the shoe tend to last longer. Second, how often are you running? Depending on your workout you can burn through a good pair of running shoes rather quickly due to how much impact your putting on them. I've seen customers go through 130.00 dollar ASICS in two months because they run 6 days a week, 3 miles a day. If your running on the treadmil, they are going to last longer than if you were doing trail or street.

Advice on getting your running shoes to last longer? Spenco or Superfeet replacement insoles. They take on more impact than the one that orginally comes in the shoe. DO NOT EVER put running shoes in the washer. Excellent way to completely ruin the shock absorbancy in your shoe instantly.

Listen to your body, It could be 2 months to a whole year. Everyone is different. Sore knees, sore lower back and pain on the ball of your foot can all mean time for new shoes.

Usually about every 6 monthes or 400 miles, whichever comes first.

At that time, generally the soles get too compacted and don't offer you any cushion. If you're not sure if your shoes are dead, go ahead and take them into a runner store (where you really should buy your shoes anyways, they will put you in ones that fit your feet) and ask them. They'd rather sell you a pair next month and have happy runners then try to force a new pair on you now.

If you are running outside:
Replace when the treds appear to me worn or if the air in the bubbles looses some. You will feel less ridgid and more bouncy when the air starts to deplete.

If you are running inthe gym then you should only wear gym shoes in the gym. That way they will last you several years as long as you dont expose them to the outside.
