I am no theologian but I believe it is more a case of learning from God's teaching through the inerrancy of the bible, rather than helping them to worship God. Though, by following his teachings in the form of the written word it could make it easier for you to feel at one with God and could therefore help Catholics worship Him.

It brainwashes them, I can say this as I am an ex catholic!
It is classic brainwashing as little children are told about this wonderful god who loves them so much, but if you think for yourself and ask questions you will go to hell! Catholics like to read the bible so they can quote from it to try to brain wash others.
Check out evilbible.com for some info, it gives bible refferences so you can check everything out yourself. Be a 'devil' and show the other side of catholicism. Should make it interesting.

I guess reading the bible as a whole does not make a great deal of sense as it is not a story from beginning to end. However, take a reading from the bible, particularly the new testament, and you will find yourself reflecting on your life, your place in the world and your relationships with others around you. Is that such a bad thing to do.

I use mine for fortune telling, I open up to a random page and say "Hmm, if I am a whore God will kill my baby" But mainly it helps people know what God wrote down and what he says. If you idolized Donald Trump you would want to read his books, so if you're religious you want to know what God wrote and learn from him.
