We know there is a massive problem of counterfeit and illegal duplication of DVD's because people actually buy them. I have seen pieces of some of them and know that the sound may be lousy, the color faded, the picture fuzzy and most likely not letterboxed - not to mention no surround sound, etc. Unless stolen from a studio print, why would anyone buy such poor quality for $5 when Video stores sell "previously viewed" films including all the big releases a couple of months late but for 4 for $20 or 5 for $25 or 3 for $21 in virtually pristine condition with all the bells and whistles?

That is a really good question! Why DO people spend their money on ILLEGAL duplicates when, if they're patient, they can have the same film later at the same price, yet obtain it legally.

As a potential filmmaker, I know what it is like to wait breathlessly for the release of a movie onto DVD. But when I obtain it illegally I am just robbing the director I so admire of the money he earned for making the film.

I believe people do it because today's society is all about instant gratification. We've got to have the highest speed Internet, so we can download our pages at lightning speed, we have to have the fastest cars, and fast food. I don't think we can wait for anything anymore and people choose to buy pirated movies (even though they are of poorer quality) so they don't have to wait for the actual DVD release.

It's a shame...

DVD Duplication is the position a recordable disc (DVD-R) is “burned” with your source content fabric promptly onto sparkling media (an optical disc). that's extra less expensive than DVD replication (even with the actuality that no longer as intense in high quality) and works perfect for a small run of discs. One accessible disadvantage is not often suggested complications of burned discs being incompatible with older DVD gamers.

people buy pirated movies because of the prices of things today. they aren't buying them to have them in their library forever, they are having them in their own home for $5 instead of paying $9.50 each person at the movies. the price you are saving is worth have a little fuzziness in the picture. it sure beats the annoying high school kids down in the front always yelling and commenting at the theater.if you look at the pro's and con's, you'll see why people would rather pay $5 for something that isn't really worth $9.50 at the movies. you're getting the same quality in a sense.

actually people aren't robbing from the filmmakers, they are robbing from the DVD company. the filmmaker gets an upfront fee for their movie and rarely actually sees a percentage of DVD sales, and besides the only people with enough power and influence to negotiate an actual percentage of the DVD sales are people like Tom Cruise and Tom Hanks and people like that who are pretty much set for life as it is.

Having said that, yeah, illegal DVD duplicators suck pretty much because they usually look terrible and even if it's good quality picture it's not like you're getting any good extra features or anything.
