V codes in the DSM-IV indicate other conditions that may be a focus of clinical attention. They are usually used when insufficient informtion is available to know whether or not a presenting problem is attributable to a mental disorder. For example, Academic Problems or Adult Antisocial Behavior can be coded with V codes until it is clear that they result from a mental disorder. Hope that helps.
