It is a Presario 2500 with Intel Pentium 4 (dont know if that helps or if I even wrote that right). It happens most often when I am playing an online game where it seems it may be working harder than usual. It also kept doing it while I was trying to run a virus scan (which takes forever with Norton). It is plugged into the wall and will come right back on when I hit the button...

Oh and its not hibernating.

What can I do to stop this or what could be the cause. It sucks.

This sounds like an overheating problem. Clean the dust bunnies out of the ventilation ducts. You may need to consider a cooling pad to use when you play games.

dust, and or battery. ( does it hold a charge long?) could be time to replace it.
hibernating could be a software setting or not enough room on the hard drive, ( need the same size as the ram on the disk to hibernate 256 ram= 256 hard drive space....
hibernation controls are under control panell, power settings.
