The only person you have to make happy is yourself. You are not responsible for any other person's happiness. Talk with him and tell him you just need to move on and then DO IT!!

Tough..but you can't just drop him if that was the case. Help him get used to where ever you are. You can still be friends with him can't you..or no.? I'm looking at it like if that were my son. I wouldn't want him to be alone in some strange place..you are all he knows there right? Then why are you looking at it like you have to get rid of him..is there some sort of hurry. If I knew someone in that situation I'd help.

Sounds like you should put him in the friend zone. Explain that your lives are taking different directions and you love him but are no longer (never were) in love with him. Tell him you still want to stay close and hope you will always be friends.

Well, if you really don't want to be with him, by not saying goodbye, you're giving him the impression you're not serious about it. He'll thank you later for "being" up front and honest one day when he meets someone he "is" attracted to. So just tell him how it is, and get on with your lives. Life is way to short to not be honest about it.
Good luck.

You are not obligated to him. He is a big boy, and it is somewhat conceided of you to believe that you leaving him would be devastating. I'm sure he would rather you be honest with him, than to continue to be with him when your heart isn't in it.

You need to be honest, and then move on. You DO owe him that!

If he has a key, change the locks. When he calls on the phone, let the answering machine pick up all his messages.
