Obviously you are young enough not to remember Margret Thatcher.

As for women in general, it doesn't make a blind bit of difference. The pressures of the office are the same, regardless of the incumbant's sex. Look are Angela Merkel or Condoleezza Rice. Notice any profound difference with Germany, or a soft, more feminine US foreign policy?

I can't tell if you are female but if you are and you feel that women would make a better go of it, why don't you get involved in politics yourself? I'm serious!

Margaret Beckett is the most senior minister in the country at the moment, and seems to be doing a good job, (compared to the mess she made at DEFRA,) but, I can't see a woman becoming a Prime Minister for a while to come yet, as to many, Margaret Thatcher is still fresh in the minds of the many affected by her policies.

Men and women are equal. It is so ironic to see that Pakistan, India, Turkey, Srilanka and Bangladesh have had female presidents. Why not the USA when it claims to have given full rights to its people? Who says a woman can't perform better than a man? It's all crap. MAn or woman, it's just got to be a person of committment and some wit.

Yes but who is there just about all the women in top jobs in the government have shown them self to be incompetent dishonest and unwilling to take the blame when they **** things up the only one i don`t find completely detestable is Diane Abbot and i don`t think she`s qualified for so much responsibility but at least she`s more down to earth than some

nothing against women in power but last one was Thatcher and i dont want to be reminded of that scumbag!

There isnt really anyone in a position to make a challenge really, highest profile in cabinet is Ruth Kelly who has the charm of an angry badger, the other side has frankensteins daughter so its a no winner there too.

Both parties are making headway in recruiting female mps so another 10 years and the Blair babes will have matured to positions of power and be in position to challenge on their merits
