Lack of knowledge. I recently made the mistake of stereotyping Satanists until i took the time to learn the truth behind Satanism and realised that many beliefs they hold are one and the same with the ones i live my life by.

It's ironic, the fact that most people say "because they're stupid" only shows that they're stereotyping people who stereotype people. The epitome of irony.

One can only use the knowledge he possesses otherwise he must strive to obtain new knowledge to aquire a new outlook on things. If one is willing to take the time to learn before he mouths off, then he won't be guilty of stereotyping. People who stereotype others are almost always guilty of a lack of better understanding of the subject they're discussing. Or a refusal to learn the facts behind the subject.

A lot of times it's an insecurity issue. It helps the person that's doing the stereotyping to perhaps define who they are. Also, there are those who have a Superiority complex, and must in a sense stereotype to achieve feeling better about themselves.

Because they are only capable of using less than 10% of their brains. Being able to hold dichotomy would require an expansive ability to comprehend and process multiple thoughts simultaneously.

Most people have a hard time deciding whether to order the Whopper or the Angus Steakburger-both cows on bread.

When they stereotype, they are using their own archaic mnemonic device to be able to remember people and then they don't have to hurt their head by learning anything new.

To sum up, they're stupid.

Because it takes no thought or thinking outside the box. People would actually have to think with their mind to be able to look at each individual and make a separate opinion. That would take to much work in this society where people can't be honest with themselves or each other. Not all white people are rednecks. Not all black people are hood rats and so on and so forth. It's just pure laziness on our part to get to know someone. If we did we may just learn something. Take the time today to get to know some one of a different color and culture you may just be surprised.

Because they don't understand something, and even more importantly they don't WANT to understand. It's just "easier" to put people who are different into categories, rather than making the effort to give someone a chance.
