The lectern is a secondary podium used by the cantor for the Gospel Alleluia or for announcements.

The main podium is called the ambo. This is from here that all the Bible readings are proclaimed and usually where the homily is taught.

With love in Christ.

A lectern is a piece of furniture with a sloping part on which a book or paper is put to be read from. I'm a Cristian and I don't believe that it helps to worship. It only helps to hold whatever you put on it to hold, like a book or something.
