You should eat in anticipation of expected activity, not after an activity. Timing, portions, and fuels (foods) depends how strenuous your excericise will be, and for how long. For example, you know the old saying that track stars load up on complex carbs (pasta is great for this) about 2-4 hours before competing. Eating 1 hour before would not allow the food to move out of the stomach yet, so excercise too soon after eating can cause cramping since blood that has rushed to the stomach for digestion has now been diverted to carry oxygen to muscles.

There's nothing bad about your diet, but it could be better if you had it 2-3 hours before lifting. Try to get the most natural peanut butter you can find--organic is the best. The fewer ingredients, the better (peanuts, salt, maybe peanut oil and brown sugar--that should be it! no emisulfurs and stearates and all that crap). PB is a decent form of easily broken-down protien, which will help with muscle rebuilding after lifting. Using wheat, or partial wheat bread (not white!) is way better because it adds significan fiber and complex carb--better for fueling a workout. Grape juice, white or red, is excellent; even better if unsweetened/no sugar added. Grape juice is excellent for vascular strength, as well as antioxidants. A Danish medical study found that grape juice had just as much health benefits as either red or white wine; it's in the tannins from the grape skins.

Best of luck with your training!

I love p/b and banana sandwiches. The sandwich would give you potassium and the benefits of nuts. It also provides lots of energy. Grape juice is supposed to be beneficial also. But also drink lots of water.

It is a relatively healthy and balanced meal. Since your metabolism is high from just working out it does help to burn calories off faster or so I have heard.
