Many times home planted avocados will never produce fruit. If there are avocado trees in your neighborhood that may increase your chances of getting fruit. To replant outside, dig a hole twice as wide as the pot it's currently in, and as deep as the pot. Fill the hole halfway full of water and allow that to soak in to the ground. Then carefully remove your plant from the pot, including all the dirt in the pot. (Tap the out side of the pot to loosen the plant so it pulls out from the pot easily.) Place in the hole, cover with dirt, tamping down gently as you add dirt. Do not fill the hole entirely to the top, making a "reservoir" for watering. Fill to the top with mulch, being sure not to have the mulch touching the trunk of the tree. (That can cause rotting of the tree trunk at ground level) Water well, and water every three days or so for two weeks. Water accordingly after that.

Roots first :^)

Seriously, a good general rule is to dig a hole twice the size of the pot (length, width, and depth). Put a little gravel on the bottom for drainage, make sure the roots aren't all cramped up, and use good soil. Lots of sun, not shade.
