****** was used to by white people against black people during stavery and times of racism to show they were better than them. that is why it is offensive if a white person says it though it is still not right when a black person says it as he/she is ignoring the meaning of the word and forgetting its history.

I think that words have different meanings for different people and time changes the meaning of words. In the early 20th century white people called black men, boys to degrade them, so does that mean black men shouldn't say, "I'm kickin' it with my boys."????? It all depends on the person. I do not personally feel offended by the word, but n-i-g-g-e-r is an entirely different thing. To avoid confusion I personally feel it is best for some people to avoid the word because you can not control how people will interpret what is being said.

Any derogatory term directed at another is offensive, regardless if you are black or white. The fact that many young black folks refer to one another in this manner, yet do so as if it isn't offensive, amazes me. Why call one another something that you would not tolerate from someone of a different ethnicity? I would find the terms "white bread", "Whitey" or any other slang just as rude coming from my best friend as I would someone who was black. How about using one anothers given name for a change?
