I grew up in a rural area where it wasn't so much of a concern. Then I moved to a more urban/suburban are and it got to me, I started to feed into it and very recently the ridiculousness of it became so apparent and I realized I have let the jones' turn me into something I always stood against and I am making a concentrated effort to change. I know a couple who was willed a home free and clear no mortage, they both drove paid off cars and only had school loans and monthly bill and sundries to worry about, but in order to "keep up" they now have 2 mortgages, car payments and creditors calling???? All the while this woman is crying how badly she wants to stay at home with her children (but can't stay out of the mall) and doesn't understand why it would be God's will for her to have to go to work. They recently sold land that was also willed to them and it is almost 2 years of her salary sitting in the bank, she could be at home with her kids, but because the house they have redone, isn't big enough or shiny enough they are looking to buy another house instead of using the money so she can be a stay at home mom like she claims she want s to be.

There was a time when I did but not anymore.
Right now I focus on being grateful for what we have. I go to school and take care of our young children, my husband works full-time+. One day after I graduate and get a good job we hope to have our own house but for right now we scrape by. Internet is our big splurge, we don't have cable, gym or club memberships, fancy clothes or new cars. "Date night" comes once a year and it's called an anniversary.
We are not rich financially but God has blessed us in so many other ways. Best of luck to the Jones', we have what matters most.

None.
There are certain obligations you have as friend, neighbor or co-worker such as....keeping the lawn mowed, fellowship with friends (going out to dinner...), and meeting the dress code at work.
Now that being said, you don't have to have the best landscaping because the neighbor does or go to the finest restaurant to impress your friends or buy the best suits for work.
God loves you for who you are, not what you have, and that is all that is important in life!

I don't keep up with the Jones'... I have never wanted and will never want to be one of the "normals" or the "averages." I do my own thing and I buy what i want, not what's "cool" or in style, but what suits me, not anyone else!!! If i ever start keep up with the Jones' shoot me, because i am not living my life anymore, i'm living theirs!!!!!!
