I own freshwater eels and can help you out. Caring for them is actually rather easy.

The first rule of fish is to have 1 gallon for every inch of fish. The smallest tank suitable would be 20 gallons. I however suggest a 30 gallon tank becuase your eel will continue to grow and needs enough room to lay out length wise. My eels eat frozen and live blood worms once every other day. Any worms will do and at the size of your eel I would think blood worms and smaller earthworms would be ok. It is best to consult a tropical fish shop about this. Petsmart and other chain stores will not know so go to a little shop. Eels require a place to hide to live without stress. I suggest a big rock with a clear area under it for hiding. The best time to observe them is during feeding. It is also important they have a night cycle. So the lights will need to be turned off for at least 8 hours.

If you have any other questions my contact info is open, do not hesitate to ask me. I love fish and am considering making a 55 gallon tank dedicated soully to freshwater eels.

the only clean water eel available for retail is the observed moray eel, you may ask your community fish/puppy shop in the event that they're available to reserve. There additionally are pecock, tire song and spiney eels, notwithstanding those are actually not truthfully eels they're accually fish they're quite neat and get enormous they eat small fish and crustations and are astonishing jumpers so have an honest extra healthful on your tank I easily have lost 3 to junping out of the tank. Any fish shop would desire to be advertising any of the three eels reported above, if not then only ask them in the event that they're available for order :)

I'd go with at least a 20 gallon tank. Not sure what they eat. But I've see people catch them while bottom fishing with worms. So, a box of night crawlers should suffice.
