so really what is the point in a daddy long legs?

There are two types of daddy long legs- one is venomos the other isnt.

The non-venomos daddy long leg eat fungi or plant material and others feed on carcasses of dead mammals and birds. Digestion is internal and some solid food is taken in, which is uncharacteristic for arachnids.

Probably to annoy humans and make some children scared !
Did you know that the daddy long legs is the deadly insect in the world only they dont have the power to inject their poisin into humans so they are completely harmless to us ! Plus they only live one day

So that kids could pull their wings and legs off? Or perhaps spiders were not scary enough so nature invented spiders with wings but got the design wrong some how.

The same point as with any animal, they form part of an incredibly intricate ecological system and play a big part in the food chain. My cats love to eat them.

I guess they eat other bugs...but when I was a kid we used to rip their legs off...now I feel really bad about it

i don't know but there are so many around at the moment and all they seem to be doing is making feeble attempts to fly around and land all over my walls and windows! it's doing my head in!
