kind of like calling someone a local. i think its versus being "country"

We always considered someone a "townie" if they were born, lived in, and had never left the same town. I know, too, that if you live in a town that has a lot of tourism, you are considered a "townie" if you aren't a tourist, but are from the area.

Townie could be negative or deragatory. It depends. It is a term used by College students to describe a city or town resident who does not attend the College, A student could say, "Yeah, that guy is just some dumb townie." Or, he could say that cool guy I met at the bar is not a student." "He's a townie."

Chavs used to be refered to as Townies, the term seems to of been replaced now for at least 5 years.
