...has had the single greatest influence on modern culture within the last hundred years, and why?

I would go either Elvis (genesis of youth movement) or Hitler, for providing the catalyst that sparked one of the greatest cultural revolutions in history- not that there is a connection between these two mind you!

Who would you say? I'm not claiming to be any sort of expert, I'm just interesed!

Possibly either Martin Luther King Jr. or John F. Kennedy for their work toward the civil rights movement. Hitler had a negative although vast influence but I think I would not recognize him for being anything other than a monster. Yes Elvis was influential in Music but it could be argued that the Beatles or Chuck Berry had just as great an influence.

Charles Darwin. Not so much for his discovery of evolution, someone was going to do that at some point, but his delicate political positioning of his theory in difficult early times.

Evolution is now the center of increasing debates about religion and secular humanism than any other person (although Hitler gets used a lot and generaly misquoted and used to demonise peoople).

If religion is to fade away it will be those religious folks dashing themselves against the rocks of science rather than focusing on what religion is good at - answering things like meaning and purpose that science does not cover.

Charles Darwin has had more affect on modern day culture than any many I can think of.

On the worst side I would say Hitler made the world change.
Nothing was the same anymore aftter WW2.

Also when JFK was shot , America changed rapidly after that.

Then add to this Sept 11 and again we are being in a different era
