There could be many reasons for this. She could be embarassed about what she is watching. Perhaps, it is too tacky a show or maybe it was something more risque than she cared for you to know. Lying is also about control. She could value her privacy enough that she doesn't want even the most trivial of things to be known. Perhaps, she fears criticizism or judgement from you or others.
You *could* say something like: guess what I found myself watching? And state a show similar in effect to what she was watching. This would show a desire to connect on some level. Or, if honesty and directness are an important part of your relationship, simply say: I am confused about why you would lie about this. I'm not trying to be judgemental, I just want to learn more about you.

assuming you are referring to what you perceive as lame tv shows, she feels she cannot show you her true feelings, as she thinks you will laugh at her, it's similar to when a man cries when watching a sad movie, he will never show that he is crying and will try to hide it for the same reasons.....people will very rarely allow themselves to be vulnerable. So yes, she is embarrased.

Don't know - what's she watching? Is it something to be embarrassed about? Should she be doing something else instead of watching TV? Do you tease her about it? Need a little more info here.

My mum is the same - she says she doesn't watch the soaps as they are a load of rubbish and yet if you ask her anything about them she can tell you everything you need to know and sometimes more!

Well one reason may be she doesn't want to be in that category of women that only watch life time or soap's. So she my church up what she watches so you think she is more rounded or intelligent.

but she watches what she wants
