As one growes older the nails tend to get brittle and crack.
There are two reason for it to crack.
1. Drying due to low humidity.
Cure seal it cover it. So they started applying someting to seal the nails. Cave woman/man must have used it.
2. Body does not produce as much oil. The cave people did not know how to deal with it, today people take various,things and suppliments for it.

Since people have been coloring their nails since Ancient Egypt and earlier, I would have to say it's been around long enough that nobody knows who was the first to do it.

back in primitive times. if u look at other areas that are untouched by much of so called civilization.. you will see various creative ways to decorate yourself..or whatever it is called when you paint....adorn...dress... attract attention
