I learned the hard way , to just tell my boss the truth , no matter what it was. Truth is always best , usually if you give your boss some notice about the days off , he sould be kool with it !

if u have health insurance, you do not need an excuse, makle an appointment to see your doctor. tell them you have not been feeling well lately (ie. not sleeping, eating) and feel completly stressed and drain. You need a couple of days of from work. THat is what you pay insurance for.
If you don't then just call out one day, explain to them that something important, urgent, came up that you have to take care of. You know it is last minute but it is unavoidable but you won't be in for the next three days, Say three cause you only need two more, that way when you show up the day before they expect you. you can say you were trying to tie up loose ends as much as possible w/o taking anymore time off. If they ask what is the reason, and they will, tell them it is quite rather personal and you would rather not get in to it at this time.

If you are entitled to days off, you really don't need an excuse. You simply say you are planning for vacation or personal days on the following days.... If you don't have the time, then you should explain you need some personal time and find out if the company can still accomodate it with pay, if not, no pay is usually an option.

you have the right to some leave days, don't you? In my country, we have at least 21 days a year and the boss signs a "leave request form" and you get your days off. Sometimes you have to consider the amount of work to be done those days, so that your department continues in a normal manner. I have to take my days off whenever my coworker is at the office, so, when she had Monday and Tuesday, i got other days, because somebody had to to the work.

elvis knocked on your door and he had a face sucker attached to him and another alien was bursting through his chest at the same time...

you tried to help him but no avail.... now you think you're infected and may be carrying an alien in your chest.

so you'll have to be out a few days and getting xrays and possibly an operation to remove the potential infestation.

and bury elvis of course with honors and a 21 gun salute.

that'll get you out of work and probably fired?

I would suggest stomach virus or food poisoning. (No one wants to hear the details about that!)

Check your company policy, some places require a doctor's note if you miss more than one or two days due to illness.

Good Luck.

how about telling your boss the true reason for you requesting 3 days off?

When my coworkers call in sick, invariably it comes back to haunt them when they are seen down at the mall, clothes shopping or something of the like.

Check your handbook if your company has one - be sure the excuse you use doesnt require documentation.

Illness - nobody wants sick colleagues to come in to work and spread their germs :-)
