If your only in 9th grade, I would just advise you to take college prep and honors level classes at your high school. Try to take the highest level history classes you can, and when you get older take AP level history classes. When you go to college, you would then major in pre-law. If your college doesn't have a pre-law major, then I guess you'd choose a major like criminal justice.

They only way to really know how to approach this is by going to your guidance counselor. If you don't have the right mix of classes it will be difficult to get into a University's pre-law program.

Check out University sites to see what their pre-law programs require. Check out the State Universities in your state.

If you have a passion to be a lawyer go out and find out as much information as you can about the education required, field, etc. Doing it now, in the 9th grade, will only work to your advantage.

Resources to gain knowledge include your school counselor, books in the library on careers, university catalogs (probably in your school library), professional sites for lawyers (look on the Internet), law journals in the library. Make sure everyone around you knows your passion to learn about law -- your teachers, parents, counselors, friend's parents, family, etc. The more interested and sincere you are the more return you will get.

Good luck!

I'm not a lawyer but I am a paralegal, and I can tell you that most of the lawyers I know took the basics in high school (math, science, english, history) and some of them took debate and research paper, but not all. The vast majority of lawyers I know majored in Political Science for the first four years they went to college, got their bachelors' degrees, and then went to law school. There is a notable exception, however: Some of the lawyers I know who specialize in contract law majored in business or finance before going to law school.
