If the question is "Do I have bad grammar?" Then by all means tear down that induvidual's gentle spirit, but sheesh, they probably dropped out of school so they wouldn't have anyone naggin them like that. Show some respect. People are so rude when the know they are completely anonymous. That's a jerk move.

You are correct, it is a jerk move. Poor grammar and spelling is a pet peeve of mine; however, that is MY problem not anyone else's. I do not inflict my problem onto anyone else. I have corrected the grammar of relatives (children) in order to help them. I try to do this in a kind way and in PRIVATE.

Another point is that the "spell check" does not seem to work on the additional details of the question. I have asked six questions on this site. The spell check seems to check the initial question that is seen, but does not seem to check the "additional detail" section. I have had to correct typing mistakes of mine in that section.

Thank you for your posting. I especially liked the comment about tearing down someones gentle spirit. That is so true. Everyone does not have the same educational opportunities.

I think that some people can be mean with the way they offer correction, but for the most part I really do think that they're trying to help. They probably want to give instructions so that if someone doesn't know, they will the next time. A bunch of folks are just trying to help & to teach what they know, passing it along as best they can.

It's the one's that drip scarcasm and hostility that bother me when it happens. Being kind to others isn't something that everyone follows as a doctrine, but it would surely make the world a much nicer place.

I think you're right, unless their grammar is *so* bad as to make their question unintelligible. Same goes for spelling, which is why I won't mention any specific... uh, induvidual here. People who do that sort of thing need to get a life :|

That's just it....this place is anonymous so you can say what you like without having to answer to anyone. Most people wouldn't go around correcting someone's grammar on the street.

Because a lot of people need to put other people down to feel better about themselves. I am all for using the spell check before submitting something but I know that sometimes when a topic is emotional or someone is angry spell check is the last thing on their mind.

I agree with Robin111. There are dozens, maybe hundreds of people out there who seem to need to put down others to exalt themselves.

I never correct anyone, because I make mistakes myself occasionally. I only question something when I am not clear what they mean. I think lots of people need to learn the art of tact. But then again, this may be the only place they can vent without anyone being able to call them on it.

:)

Actually it's when THEY know they are completely anonymous. J/k. But i guess people do it just because they don't like anything to be harder to read that it has to be or because they can't understand the question when it is not grammatically correct.

I think people are just trying to be helpful---maybe they think the "bad grammar" will hurt that person in the future, unless they realize how many mistakes they are making.

Because it seems that most people who write in answers can't spell and one has no idea what they are asking. You are a jerk and it's fun to be rude when the questions are so stupid.

I'm aware that some people are not native English speakers. However, it's also obvious when somebody is, and is just murdering the language.

I consider it a public service.
