No, the rhythm method doesn't work. Is your friend a gynecologist? And you should be using condoms to protect yourself from disease. If you're 18, go to the doctor, get some pills, and keep using condoms.

I know about twenty pull and pray babies (the rhythm method). me, my brother, and my sister are three of them. it doesn't work. at all. sperm come out during sex before the guy ejaculates. If you use that method, you're askin for it. I was on depo provera. the shot. it was good because it's effective and I no period for the year and a half i was on it. but I gained like 30 pounds and I got these dark patches on my face from the hormones. I was on the pill before that. it was nice because it regulates your period, but I know a lot of people that have gotten pregnant on them. a lot. a condom. they aren't even entirely accurate. they can break and they have microscopic tears that sperm could easily swim through even if it doesn't break. after I was off birth control, I used the foams and gel inserts that buy at walmart. that was only because I knew my partner was clean. if you don't know don't let him in without a condom. trust me. I am 19 weeks now, but I didn't get pregnant until after I stopped using these methods and we tried to get pregnant. also, iud's work pretty good. a friend got pregnant on that 3 times tho. i don't know much about the patch. just remember, there is always a chance you can get pregnant, no matter what you do. and pregnancy is the number consequence. i'm not saying that you are one of those girls that think like this but abortion however is not a method. i know you don't want to be pregnant right now and that's fine. just make sure that you will take care of your responsibilities should you end up pregnant. I hope this helps. good luck.

I have to add something here: rhythm method is very insecure, especially for young girls.
And condom is a great thing and very recommended, as it also protects you from a disease (including AIDS) and you cannot know by any chance if your partner is healthy or not, except if he doesn't go for a medical check (the same for you, he has to be sure, too).
Anyway, this a serious question, go and see a doctor and talk on this issue. This is avery important issue, this is not a game, so go and ask an expert, a doctor.

You can still get pregant with the rythm method...there is sperm in pre-ejaculate. Go on the pill...unless you are in a committed relationship you should also be using a condom.

Hate me for being obvious:
Abstinence.

The pill worked for me while I was on it. It's over 99% effective when used correctly. My friend's mom got pg on the shot. People get pg on the pill all the time-lots of times by missing pills and/or being on anitbiotics, etc which decrease the effectiveness. And it's not unheard of for a pg to occur with an IUD either in place or because it's been rejected by your body.

If you dont know much about protection, then maybe you shouldent be sleeping around.
No rythem doesnt work, if you get too caught up in the moment, sometimes your not fast enough, and then you'll be writing questions about pregnancy. Also, you need to protect yourself from STD's

condom plus another method - condom for std and backup method as well.

The hormone methods have side-effects - some great and some awful. Skin improvements, period improvements.

You need condoms at least!

ABSTINENCE IS THE BEST TYPE OF PROTECTION BUTT WE ALL KNOW THAT NOBODY PRACTICES THAT, USE THE PILL, THAT'S PRETTY GOOD IT PROTECTS AGAINST PREGANANCY AND REGULATES YOUR CYCLE. BUT NO MATTER WHAT YOU USE YOU SHOULD ALWAYS USE A CONDOM BIRTH CONTROL DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK, BESIDES CONDOMS ARE THE ONLY THING THAT CAN PROTECT AGAINST AIDS AND STDS
