I am doing a report on better recruiting for the army for my CIPD CPP. I am interested to find out how many people applied but were turned down for the Army and why they weren't accepted.

Unless a person is severely hadicapped either physically, or mentally, they can get in, especially during the time of conflict, where they need plenty of replacement soldiers. I was in the army, and the entrance physical is more like a joke, than a real physical.

although 20 yrs ago now, i was turned down as i used to suffer from asthma. i refer to used to suffer. i had not had an asthma attack for 4-5 yrs yet they still turned me down on that basis.i was 18 and it had been my dream to join for 3 yrs. but i wanted to wait till i thought i was ready and capable of taking every thing the army could throw at me. i took the tests at the army careers office and passed. was then sent to sutton coldfield in birmingham,where we did more tests and physical training. as far as i was concerned i flew through it all. i was trying for the r.e.m.e [ royal electrical mechanical engineers.. i have to say when they turned me down i was absolutely gutted.still to this day i still regret not being able to get in although it was not my fault, i wonder at what i could have made of myself. hope this helps

i was turned down in 1984 because i am 2 shades of red colour blind!!!

Other people i know have been turned down for being overweight, having asthma etc.
