Playoffs...yes.

World series...no.

They can NOT beat the Mets.

I'd say yes, and possibly. I think they'll make the playoffs, and once that happens, who knows how far they'll go?

It's easy to say, "They can't beat the Mets," or whatever other team, but that completely ignores the element of chance associated with a short series. All it takes is a hot pitcher, or a good run by an offense, and any playoff team is capable of winning the Series.

When the Marlins made it as a wilcard a few years ago, there was similar talk that they couldn't beat the Braves or Giants (both 100-game winners). Well, they beat the Giants easily, the Cubs knocked off the Braves, and then the Marlins took out the alleged "best team" Yankees in the World Series and won.

Never believe that any team is a sure bet in a baseball playoff. The sample sizes (series) are so small that anything can occur.

I say they will make it to the playoffs, but it is hard to say if they will beat the Mets to reach the World Series. Sometimes the Mets pitching is not really good, right now the Padres have the most dominant pitching in the NL (September), they have had the best bullpen throughout most of the season. The Padres have a shot as long as they dont use Linbrink in the setup role. He is better for the seventh inning. Do the Padres have a chance of reaching the World Series? I say they do but it will be hard. Rihgt now the Padres connot use Khalil Greene, he has been out for too long to put him in playoff games. Geoff Blum has been doing a good job at short stop. The most important thing is to not take Russel Branyan out of games or to sit him out. Todd Walker is still having difficulties on his throws to first, and lets face it Bellhorn can't hit the ball with a door. Hope this answers your question. GO PADRES!!!!!!!

Yes, for certain.

As far as the World Series, I think they might. They have the best pitching staff in the NL, and should be able to dominate the Mets/Cardinals or Dodgers.
