I am thinking of moving from an expensive city in CA to Florida- the Tampa area. I would love to know what you think is the best and worst aspects of living in Florida. Thanks for your ideas!

I grew up in St. Petersburg, FL (right outside of Tampa). It is nice to be so close to the beach. The living costs in Florida are not as low as they once were, housing here is some of the most expensive in the country (Probably with exception to CA). The thing I dislike most about FL is the weather. I am not a fan of the hot weather. The summers are brutal. Winters are nice and comfortable. Your decision to move here should also be based on your career. If you are a teacher, or planning to be a teacher, DO NOT move to Florida.

I have only visited Florida twice on vacation. I loved going to the beaches and the scenery was gorgeous. But I don't think I could live there. I can't take the humidity (it's bad enough in the Nebraska summers!). The people there said they got used to it, but I don't think I would! But that is just my opinion. Florida is a very pretty area. I worry about hurricanes, too! Luckily, we just missed them.

I was born in FL and at 27 I just moved to NC last month. I would never go back to FL...ever. It is HUMID and hot all year. You think you might get a break in the winter but I dont think I put on a jacket last year at all, not even once. It is miserable. They grass is stiff and/or dead. Not soft and cool like it is here even when you pay for the good stuff. There are red ants everywhere, too. I lived about two hours from Tampa in Cape Coral. Please head my warning as unless you enjoy what I just described you will hate it. Oh and you live in constant fear of hurricanes as FL isnt very wide and it sticks out like a thumb.

Move to NC or somewhere pretty.

If i could i would move to Florida in a second. I live in crappy cold New England, and i hate it. Lived here all my life. In Florida I love the scenery, love the palm trees, there is so much to do and plenty of beaches. I've been there in the winter and it wasn't humid. It was dry and beautiful weather. Everytime i leave there, it feels like i'm leaving home.

oh my goodness, Tampa is not nearly as bad as the previous person stated. yes, it's hot here, and humid. but you have that kind of weather anywhere. we have so much to be thankful for here in florida. the beautiful beaches, the lush state parks, lots of historical sites. as far as hurricanes......you get at least a weeks warning. vs the earthquakes in california. come, join us.

Best is that it's hot all year and no earthquakes. Worst is that it's hot all year and we have storms when the hurricanes go by, but Tampa has never been hit by a major hurricane.
