Time will tell but it's shaping up to be a huge problem for the country and has really served to give terrorist organizations things that they wanted but could not achieve on their own:
1) Cause moderate arabs to choose sides against us
2) Give Jihadists a place to go and practice killing americans
3) Give Iran the ability to seriously interfere with the US with relatively little effort and cost
4) Double the size of Iran
5) Erode our support among eurpoean allies

The history of the united states of a ways from over. yet we human beings have short memories. Iraq isn't the 1st u . s . a . we invaded with vulnerable or no justification. Mexico Panama Nicaragua Cuba Philippines North Korea i don't understand ways anybody can attack Obama for pulling troops out of Iraq. The Iraqis advised us to bypass away. Obama had to stay. So temporarily, No i don't think of the invasion and occupation of Iraq became the biggest distant places coverage blunder in the history of the united states

No. If you remember, the US fought several wars both for independence, security against a 2nd British invasion, securing Americans against Mexican invasion in the 19th century, a Civil War, further wars against aggressive attacks by Germany and Japan in two world wars and several internal struggles which eventually led to universal suffrage and civil rights legislation. Expecting Iraq to sail smoothly in 3 years is folly. It took us 200 years to even get to a point where we could truly say equality and freedom were reasonably shared by all.
The biggest foreign policy blunders can be found in coming off the gold standard, in signing NAFTA, and in placating Iran and N. Korea. These pursuits weaken the US. Some irreparably. So I would say Iraq, for all the lives cost and the turmoil faced in Iraq (let's not forget how many Iraqis died each day at the hands of Saddam, his sons and his despotic Ba'athist regime), for all the expense and frustration with the Middle East in general...the US is still leading the discussion and leading the charge for worldwide freedom. NO ONE else is stepping up, and in fact, countries like Spain, France and the UK are giving up freedoms so they can placate their minority populations who are really more interested in undermining the state (certain minority populations are) than in supporting and adding to the state's future.
Let's not think of Iraq as what it is not. It is not a quagmire. Today, 100's of thousands of Iraqi troops are trained. They are unwilling to fight, because of fear of retribution and death. This fear arises not from American threats, but from intra-national threats. Sunnis and Shi'ites do not have a symbiotic, peaceful history in Iraq. That will take decades to build. Today we are witnessing birth pains that, as I mentioned in the case of the US, may take a century or so to truly subside. But the tradition we have, as democratic and free economy participants in our nation and the world, should be something all people can aspire to. There is nothing wrong with fighting for and preserving your freedom. Iraqis must show their will to do so, and we should help them. The blunder would be to stay in our tortoise shell and hope the world evolves peacefully. It will not, not without the leadership of the free and peaceful. We are that leadership's best representative, and internationally we are present exactly where we belong.

its only a blunder at the moment ... take over iran and syria, then in a few years things settle down and we are in effective control of all the oil over there ... it may be seen as a necessary step to insure americas survival after a couple of decades ... that is, IF we dont start a nuclear war in the process, and IF we dont turn america into a dictatorship with martial law ... i believe the thinking is that who cares about opinions of the world if you stay on top whether its right or wrong or whether the american people are behind you or not ..

Yes, this will surely be the worst blunder in Ameican history? Why? Because we have a spoiled child for a President, and an incompetent fool for a defense scretary who are making our military look the three stooges run it.

If liberating a nation is bad foreign policy then it was a bad idea. No matter what the motives were, the Iraqi's are better off now than under Saddam. Why are we so concerned with how people perceive us? We have a different ideology than they do. As the #1 super power in the world, it is our obligation to police the rest of the world. This must be done for self preservation.

I'm not sure it will ever top Vietnam as the biggest loss. Vietnam had a much higher loss of life and an even weaker plan to stop communism.
