Speaking from a man's point of view; I think you should trust him. If you give him all your trust and he ruins that, then it's time to depart.
As for looking at his eyes...that's the same thing as believing in Santa...no such thing.
If he falls, I don't know about that... ;)

God give us this little thing in our heart. Like a compass. It tugs and tells you. It has always guided me in the right direction. Alot of people dont listen to it though. Just sit down, close your eyes and when he talks feel ur heart. Is it tugging? If not then he is sincere as sincere can get. If it is. tugging..Im sorry
This past week I went through something and In spite of what my brain has been telling me to do and pain in my heart I am hanging on tight as all hell to those moments in the past few days that my sweetie spoke and the tugging did momentarilly stop. Sometimes thats what you have to do-listen to him and is he speaking to your heart ? And if your heart feels it and recoginzes it and is listening, thats how you will know.

I think the key is to know your man. Has he lied in the past? Has he done something to break your trust? If he has done so, there might be reason to doubt his sincerity. If he has not and always been trustworthy, don't doubt him, trust him.

Because what he DOES will measure up to and be a true reflection of what he SAYS.
Watch very carefully. If they don't match........then the truth is speaking to you. Use your EYES to "listen".
