I have been on Ortho-Tricyclyn Lo for almost 2 years now. Last week, I forgot to take my pills two days, so I doubled-up. Then, last Wednesday (9/20) my boyfriend and I had sex. This past Sun, 9/23, was the last day I took my pills. From then on, I have truly forgotten to take them. Today is Thurs. 9/28 and last night at work I went to the bathroom and noticed that I had started spotting and it was brownish-red and chunky (not like when I have a normal period.) I don't know what is going on, but I'm thinking it might just be because I haven't taken my pills for almost 5 days now and my body is "out of whack". What is going on? Has this happened to anyone else and could I possibly be pregnant? Should I take the pills now that I missed or will this cause me to feel sick? Right now, along with the spotting, my stomach is slightly upset and "crampy."
Please help! Thanks.

Missing a few pills really screws with your system. It will get back to normal when you start your next pack.

I am also on ortho tri cyclen lo and on your first couple of months on the pill, if you miss even 1 pill, you can have spotting and bleeding during sex. I don't think you should take the pills you missed b/c you missed too many. Call your doc. He will either tell you to start a new pack today, or to wait until your period starts and start a new pack on the first sunday after your period. Don't worry about the spotting. It is normal. But, you really should use back up protection for the next month!

Your probably aren't pregnant but the best thing to do is get a home pregnancy test before you start taking the pills again. If you are not pregnant then you should wait until after your next period to start taking your pills again. Consistency is the key with birth control pills that you take every day. Leave them somewhere that you can see them in the morning so that you will remember them. Or get that patch thing or the pill that you only take once a month or once a week or get that O ring. Good Luck

Yes, when you skip up to 2 days it's okay (and recommended in the literature) to double up. However, I did this once and ended up getting a period in the middle of that cycle, and again at the end of the pill pack. The deal with the pill is all in the hormones. When your pill pack is done, the hormonal change signals your period to start. So if you miss a couple days, the same thing can happen. Your cycle is, indeed, "whacked", but should return to normal with the next pill pack.

You are not pregnant.....you are starting your period. Your body thinks it it time since you have skipped your pills for so many days. DONT take all of them now. You will feel horrible. Just have your period and start a brand new pack of pills on Sunday so you can get back on a regular cycle. I would be extra careful having sex for the next week or two since your cycle is so off. Better safe than sorry!! PS: I set an alarm on my phone to remind me to take my pills everyday and it works really well. That way you are taking them at the exact same time everyday.

You're not pregnant. I was on the same pill for 3 years and stopped last April and haven't had a period yet. It's crazy because every time I forgot a pill or two when I was taking it, I would spot. It's normal. Don't worry.

Your body probably thinks it's time to start your period since you haven't taken the pill in so many days. I doubt that you're pregnant, but it's always a possiblity since birth control isn't 100% effective at preventing pregnancy. Once you start your next pack of birth control pills your body should get back on track. If you're really concerned about it, call your doctor and get his/her opinion. Hope that helps! :-)
