I uninstalled NetZero, and just had a broadband install done. After the technician plugged everything in, it worked. I had to unplug it to move a piece of furniture, plugged everything back in exactly as he did, and now my computer is unable to find an IP address, and just assigns a 169 default. I tried to renew the IP, and a message pops up saying that an IP address could not be found. The broadband company said that the connections are correct on their end, and for "some reason" our laptop is refusing to assign an IP. Firewalls are also disabled. We have no viruses nor spyware either. I am stumped.

Try rebooting the cable modem. Try from command prompt, ipconfig/release, ipconfig/renew.

I agree with the other posts. Also, I would make sure the security code is absolutely correct or it won't let you connect.

Try disabling and re-enabling your NIC, then reboot the laptop
