what if i signed a contract when i was underage?
When i was 16 i signed a mobile phone contract (stupidly) but the minimum age was 18, i put in a different date of bith and the contract was allowed.
After some time i ceased to pay the bill(woops) and now credit agencies contact me asking for repayment, so i contacted them and they told me that my parents are liable, i think there just saying that, and were really quite rude :-( i didnt know what i was commiting too at the time. Now they have sent the account for "futher action" what are they going to do? ahhh lol

thankyou guys if you can help :-)

what you did was very silly... but you already know that now....... luckily for you there is a loophole in the law that states if you can prove you didnt know what you were signing into you may not be liable for the repayment. i would seek advice from the citizens advice bureau on that. you will be held responsible as regards falsifying documents regarding your age though as you were well aware that you entered the wrong date of birth. this will be treated as a serious crime ie fraud. your parents may well have to pay a fine or you may have to do community service
in addition to this though the company you applied to should also be held largely responsible as they obviously didnt check you id properly... they are likely to be heavily fined. it will be cheaper for them to pay off your contract than be fined (hint hint) if you learn wisely from this mistake u might be quite lucky

relies upon the place you're. In England minors can't enter right into a freelance that creates 'debt' till that debt is used to purchase what the regulation deems as 'necessaries'. those in many situations incorporate nutrition, clothing and look after. no be counted if a cellular telephone might class as a 'needed' may well be open to interpretation with the help of a courtroom even in spite of the indisputable fact that I doubt if it may well be classed as such. considering you lied approximately your age, notwithstanding, the telephone business enterprise could have this construed as a criminal act in which you obtained products or centers under fake pretences and pursue the debt that way. If convicted and located responsible you are going to be compelled to pay 'reparation' to cover their losses and face a community service Order besides having a criminal checklist for destiny potential employers to work out. If I have been you i might make some association with the credit business enterprise, explaining the circumstances and offering a actual looking month-to-month repayment. Little tip: do not do it lower back!

Charlie, You are screwed... Your parents are liable and right now that bill is getting bigger because of interest and late fees, pretty soon theres going to be a knock at the door and its going to be a bill collector, even worse your credit rating is being destroyed, you will find it extremely difficult to ever get a mobile on contract again let alone a car loan, as for lying on an official document that is called fraud, and is prosecuted as an adult, which means possible jail.. Sleep tight

You should never of been offered the contract in the first place if the phone company had done proper checks. So the contact is null and void. What you did was stupid. But the phone company is at fault. They are just trying to scare you. As they no there are in the wrong. They are just chancing there arm to get their money back. Go to see a c.a.b citizens advise. and dont use the phone anymore. I sudgest that you send it all back to them. registered post. Saying check your records. And state that i should never have been offfered the phone and contact in the first place. They may not proceed any further. They will notice that they are just as much as you are in the wrong. Good luck.

You and your parents are both safe. Minors can only enter into enforceable contracts for Necessities, and so far, no one has established that a cell phone is a necessity for a sixteen--year old.

Sorry kids, but don't use that argument on your parents. The further action might amount to one threatening letter, and then the legal department will drop it.

you cant enter into that contract without being old enough. Also they should have checked your id or something. You can always have your parents threaten to sue them for acepting a contract from a minor and thus causing you damages. But honestly just pay you took the service.

Suck it up, Charlie, and pay for what you contracted for.

Even if you were underage, you still knew that you were entering into an agreement where you were to pay for services you would receive. You should uphold your end of the bargain and not whine about it just because you were underage.

Yeah what is the problem with paying up. Are you expecting to get let off. Your parents will be held liable and the baliffs could turn up. You really dont want that! Own up and pay up, be a man.

1st of all what you did was stupid. 2nd being underage at the time you sign the contract should forfait it. that is if you can prove that you were underage at the time as for any consequences as payments etc... the mobile phone company might just ask your parents for the money. great idea you had there.
